Case Summary

A child riding a bicycle struck and killed Timothy Solomon, whose widow sued the child’s parents for negligent entrustment, supervision, and training. The trial court denied the parents’ motion for summary judgment, concluding that factual questions remained. The Court of Appeals of Georgia reversed. It rejected the broad rule that parents are always liable when a child rides a bicycle unsupervised, and held that the parents were not liable on this record because they had no reason to know that their child posed a dangerous risk to others.
