Case Summary

Geoffrey Velazco and the estates of his parents sued Cascade Aircraft Management after the parents, both Georgia residents, died in a Colorado plane crash allegedly caused by faulty repairs performed in Idaho. Cascade argued that Georgia lacked personal jurisdiction over the out-of-state aircraft-service provider. The Court of Appeals of Georgia held that Cascade’s contacts with Georgia did not satisfy the State’s long-arm statute and the constitutional limits of due process. The company’s services were site-specific and the record did not show the purposeful Georgia connections required for jurisdiction. The court reversed the trial court’s denial of Cascade’s motion to dismiss.
