Case Summary

After Shawntray Grant won about $10,000 on a gambling boat, he was shot and robbed; Nelaunte Grant was convicted of felony murder predicated on armed robbery. The Supreme Court of Georgia noted that the evidence was not overwhelming but held jurors could infer she shared intent with co-defendant Dunham because she knew of the winnings, communicated with him before and after the killing, erased the messages, lied about contact, and stayed in the car at the scene. The Court rejected her claim that the State had to prove the message contents or a financial benefit to her. It affirmed the felony-murder conviction; a separate challenge to the armed-robbery verdict was moot because that count merged at sentencing.
