Case Summary
Holocaust survivors sued Hungary under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act’s expropriation exception. The Court held that allegations that Hungary liquidated expropriated property, commingled proceeds, and later used some commingled funds for commercial activity in the United States do not alone establish the statute’s required commercial nexus. The lower court had to apply that narrower jurisdictional rule.
