Case Summary

Jamie Courtney Wright was convicted of controlled-substance and firearm offenses. The Court of Appeals of Georgia rejected his challenges to statements made during police detention and to the sufficiency of the evidence, but held that the trial court improperly admitted the facts underlying Wright’s prior guilty pleas. It reversed the convictions on that basis. A dissent would have upheld the evidentiary ruling, concluding that the prior convictions were sufficiently probative and not unfairly prejudicial.
