Case Summary

Maxime Patrick Bien-Aime was convicted after police stopped the vehicle he was driving and discovered contraband. He argued that the traffic stop violated the Fourth Amendment and that the resulting evidence should have been suppressed. The Court of Appeals of Georgia agreed and reversed the judgment of conviction. The court held that the stop lacked the required constitutional basis and that the evidence obtained through the resulting detention could not support the convictions. Because reversal of the suppression ruling resolved the case, the court did not reach Bien-Aime’s remaining claims.
