Case Summary

Malcolm Muckle was convicted of felony murder after his accomplice, Travis Callaway, was killed during an attempted armed robbery. Muckle argued that the evidence did not establish his participation or sufficiently corroborate his statements and that trial counsel was ineffective. The Supreme Court of Georgia held that the evidence authorized the jury to find Muckle a party to the attempted robbery and that independent evidence corroborated his incriminating statements, including the location and circumstances of the shooting and other evidence connecting him to the crime. The court distinguished a confession from an incriminating admission and applied the statutory corroboration requirement accordingly. The evidence was constitutionally sufficient, and Muckle failed to show deficient performance or prejudice. The court affirmed.
