Case Summary

Primerica sued competing financial firms, alleging that they raided its business and took confidential information and trade secrets. The trial court granted an interim injunction and expedited discovery. On appeal, the defendants argued that the court had not resolved whether it had personal jurisdiction over one firm or whether the dispute belonged in arbitration. The Court of Appeals vacated the order because its treatment of those threshold motions and the basis for equitable relief were too unclear for meaningful appellate review. It directed the trial court to address the pending jurisdiction and arbitration issues and explain its ruling. The appellate court did not decide whether Primerica’s allegations were true, whether an injunction should ultimately issue, or whether expedited discovery was proper. Those questions remain open on remand.
