Case Summary
After agents searched Mar-a-Lago under a warrant for presidential and classified records, Donald Trump asked the district court to seize control of the government’s review by appointing a special master and enjoining further use of the records. The Eleventh Circuit held that the court lacked equitable jurisdiction to supervise an ongoing criminal investigation: the seized presidential records belonged to the United States, and ordinary criminal procedure supplied the available privilege protections. It vacated the special-master order and remanded with instructions to dismiss the civil action.
