Case Summary

Antone T. Adams received the Armed Career Criminal Act’s 15-year mandatory minimum after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm as a felon. The district court counted two Florida convictions for fleeing or attempting to elude under the ACCA residual clause, along with an uncontested prior conviction. While Adams’s appeal was pending, Johnson v. United States invalidated the residual clause. The Eleventh Circuit explained that the Florida convictions did not qualify under the ACCA’s force clause or enumerated offenses, and the government conceded they could no longer support the enhancement. The court vacated Adams’s sentence and remanded for resentencing.
